Telecommunication, Government of India (at that time the only
telecommunication service provider in India).
In the University:
As the head of the Intelligent Informatics
lab, I have to plan the direction of research for the laboratory and
pursue the same with the help of other staff members and senior
students in the lab. I am/was also involved in various committees
including the planning of the grad school and its curriculum,
head of the grad-school academic affairs committee etc. During last
14 years, I moved to three different universities, worked in different
labs and taught different subjects.
In Telecommunication Industry:
During 1981-1989 I worked in
the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Initially I
worked on both switching and communication systems. Subsequently I
specialized in SPC ESS (Stored Program Controlled Electronic
Switching Systems). I also developed a comprehensive subscriber
information base for a region of the Calcutta metropolitan telephone
network. I also gained experience as Divisional Manager for
metropolitan switching system planning for PSTN (Calcutta
Telephones).
During Ph.D and M.Tech.:
During Ph.D. I wrote
extensive simulation programs for different types of artificial neural
networks. During M.Tech. I wrote a Translator Writing System
which would generate the compiler of any HLL from its BNF grammar and
tokens. I also wrote a Basic interpreter in Fortran.
